Sojung Jun's newly commissioned opera performance draws on the ecofeminist writings of Hur Soo-kyung and the myth of the nine-tailed fox to explore narratives of memory, migration, survival, and transformation. Revisiting the history of the Koryo-saram, who were forcibly deported to Central Asia in 1937, and the cultural legacy of the Koryo Theater, the work presents a rich musical narrative featuring pansori, operatic vocals, saenghwang, North Korean gayageum, theremin, and other instruments. Accompanied by video works on women artists of the Koryo Theater and incorporating archival materials and artificial intelligence, the performance proposes new perspectives on migration, memory, and cultural survival.
The performance was co-commissioned by Busan Biennale Organizing Committee. Performa and The Showroom; in collaboration with Mudam Luxembourg–Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean. Production support from the Arts Council Korea, 2025–2026
