Julian Abraham “Togar” presents a live performance in which he plays the drums. Extending into the present moment in Busan the drumming recorded in his video works on Run Island and in Manhattan—two places historically connected through seventeenth-century colonial trade—“Togar” responds to the sounds and rhythms of the videos through repetition and variation, bringing memories embedded in different places and times into a shared resonance. In this process, drumming moves beyond musical performance to become a performative act that evokes the memory of place, connects people, and creates new relationships and forms of community.
