Joon Yoo
Universe Memory begins with a faint electronic signal that Joon Yoo encountered in Chile's Atacama Desert. Although it was barely perceptible, it shifted the artist’s sense of the world around her. It led her to ask: what invisible structures are we moving through without realising they exist?
The installation brings together 21 photogravures organised into six chapters and a single-channel video. Together, they translate time into visual and spatial rhythms. These speculative musical scores are not meant to be deciphered. Instead, they invite us to pause, look more closely, and become aware of ways of sensing that reach beyond everyday perception.
As the rhythmic images pulse and repeat, an Italian voice guides us to reflect on the origins of sound and the scale of the universe. Creating a space for quiet contemplation, Joon Yoo gently shifts our focus away from the pace of daily life and toward a sense of time that stretches far beyond human existence. In doing so, Universe Memory situates the artist’s inquiry on a cosmic scale, contemplating a time that existed long before human presence and will continue long after.
