Hyunsung Park
You are now standing in what was once the school kitchen, where meals were prepared each day for students, teachers, and staff. Hyunsung Park has transformed this abandoned space, once the central metabolic organ supplying and digesting energy, into a “Blue Darkroom”. Cold blue light fills the room, while the aging pipes, ceiling, and walls seem to sink beneath the surface of the sea. A place that was once familiar slowly unfolds into an entirely different world.
As you explore the installation, you'll notice hoses and lights stretching across the ceiling, walls, and floor. Like nerves or flowing waterways, they connect the scattered sculptures into what feels like a single living body. The suspended forms seem to exist somewhere between sleeping and awakening, between stillness and life. The soundscape, created in collaboration with sound producer A-BO-PF, introduces another current into the space. Its deep, resonant tones move through the former kitchen like invisible water, connecting the sculptures, the architecture, and even your own body as you move through the installation.
Take a moment to slow down and look around. Here, the abandoned school and the depths of the sea begin to merge. The familiar becomes unfamiliar, as though this forgotten place has become a habitat for strange new forms of life. Through this transformation, Park invites us into a space where reality and imagination, memory and sensation, quietly meet.
