Since returning from her studies in Germany, Hyunsung Park has been based in Korea, where she explores the “space beneath the skin” as the only refuge amid an external environment in constant flux. Through the collision of heterogeneous materials, combining metal with fabric and industrially produced medical equipment, Park structures an unstable equilibrium in which protection and threat coexist. Her constellations of figures, often anthropomorphic, visualize how bodily sensations are continually reconfigured through friction with the outside world. Suspended between materiality and theatrical tension, the artist explores the relationships that unfold between living beings, navigating dynamics of domination and submission, care and dependency.
