This performative intervention sees Nkisi engaging with the sonic and tactile qualities of her site-specific commission Anomaly Index: Paracoustic Altar, an installation tapping into the complex and colonial histories of sound recording technology through the phonograph and the wax cylinder. Sequencing acoustic experiments on and with the altar, the artist will invoke the paraacoustic energies and ancestral legacies which resisted categorisation and easy capture, that are embedded within these archival artefacts.
