This work is Sex in Space, a newly commissioned film installation by Brazilian artist Luiz Roque for this biennale. The film begins with two mysterious beings floating inside a spaceship and encountering one another. They may be tiny cells from within the human body, or unfamiliar life forms from a distant world. Communicating through sound and movement rather than words, the two beings initially appear to be in conflict. But when a new threat emerges, they gradually begin to work together.

The circular screening space is also part of the artwork. It was inspired by Casa Bola, a spherical house built in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1979. In the film, the building becomes a spaceship, creating a seamless connection between the world on the screen and the space around the viewer. The rounded, translucent forms of the two ceramic sculptures near the entrance recall the beings in the film, suggesting cells, bodily fluids, or forms of life that have yet to be named.

Notice how the moving image, sound, sculpture, and space come together as a single experience. Luiz Roque invites us to imagine how different beings might form relationships beyond language, build trust, and find ways to live together.
