Depth is a collaborative work by Guely Morató Loredo and Lara Ögel, whose practices previously converged during a residency at Delfina Foundation, London, in 2025. Their shared sensibility re-emerges in this multisensory installation, evoking an underwater realm in which they explore the fragile relations between human and more-than-human worlds.
Viewers are invited to take off their shoes and enter the enclosed, darkened space. Inside, softly illuminated translucent resin sculptures rest close to the ground. Their forms recall shells, caves, bones, and archaeological remains. Somewhere between the skeletons of prehistoric creatures and unknown hybrid species from a time yet to come, their humble and vulnerable presence invites a moment of quiet reverence.
What gradually reveals itself is not only the mysterious beauty of aquatic life, but also its violation. The sound work Opera Silente brings together underwater recordings, marine bioacoustics, whale songs, and ocean soundscapes with the sounds of human-made infrastructures, including shipping traffic, sonar systems, and submarine communication cables. A haptic system of transducers carries low frequencies through the floor and into the body, creating a form of listening felt through skin and bone. The violence of underwater noise is as material as it is invisible, operating beyond human perception while profoundly affecting the bodies and ecosystems it encounters.
