Aliaskar Abarkas’s Spell is presented on the ground of the Former Busan Nam High School and inside the Busan Museum of Contemporary Art. At the school, three tones of reclaimed textile are laid out to form a monumental musical score. From within the grounds, the work is a field to be walked and inhabited. Seen from above, it unfolds like a map, revealing a composition that draws on musical notation, geometric patterns, and protective symbols and diagrams. Together, these elements shape relationships between bodies and space.

The installation is assembled collectively, continuing Abarkas’s practice of returning to the communal as a working method. Through participatory workshops, local residents were invited to stitch, arrange, and lay the reclaimed textiles across the schoolground. The collective act of assembly becomes part of the work itself, gradually inscribing a protective spell into the landscape. Conceived as a score, the work was activated during the opening weekend by a performance by Hyelim Kim, a virtuoso performer of the daegeum, the traditional Korean bamboo flute.
