The House of Korean Protest Songs
Established in 2022 in a renovated single-story house in Sujeong-dong, Busan, the House of Korean Protest Songs is an archival space dedicated to collecting and preserving materials related to minjung gayo (Korean protest songs), including vinyl records, performance documentation, sheet music, theoretical writings, poetry collections, and novels. Its caretaker, Kim Young-Goo, understands minjung gayo not simply as a legacy of resistance, but as a language of collective memory that resonates across generations. Open to anyone wishing to listen to and engage with these songs, the House of Korean Protest Songs functions as a "playground," where shared acts of listening and remembrance foster new forms of solidarity that transcend generational and regional boundaries.
